Place commerce and table QR

Place mode for cafes, shops and venues - address, hours, Wi-Fi and menu on the page, today's specials with tips, and a QR code per table with scan counts.

On this page

Place mode turns a page into the front door of a physical venue: a café, bar, studio, salon or market stall. It adds a place card to the public page, a list of today's specials, and a QR code per table or counter so the venue can see which seats scan.

Who can use it

The Place screen opens when the plan includes the place or place_commerce key. The Premium plan created by the migrations includes both. Plans without either key see an upgrade prompt on Place, although the This is a place switch under Settings is not gated, so any plan can show the basic place card.

Specials and table QR stations need place_commerce, which is checked on the server: without it, they cannot be listed or saved, and the public page does not show specials.

Turning it on

Open Place and switch on place mode (the same switch is This is a place under Settings). Then fill in what you want on the page:

  • the address, opening hours ("Thu–Sun 11–7") and the Wi-Fi password;
  • a menu link (a PDF or a web page);
  • the heading for specials (default "Today", up to 32 characters).

All of it shows on the public page in a place card above the links. Turning place mode off hides the card and the specials but keeps what you entered.

Specials

Under Today's specials, add an item with a title (up to 80 characters), one line of description (up to 160) and an optional price. Remove an item when it is no longer on.

Tick Tip enabled on a special to add a Tip for this button to it. That starts a tip checkout for the special's price (at least $1, or $5 when no price is set) through your payment gateway, recorded as a tip with the special's name as the note. It is a tip, not an order: there is no cart, stock or kitchen ticket.

Note

Prices on the public page are shown in whole US dollars ("$12"), whatever your gateway's currency.

Table QR codes

Under Table QR stations, add a station per table, counter or poster: a name ("Table 4", "Window bar") and a short code made from it (table-4). Each station gets:

  • a link: the page address plus ?table=<code>, for example https://links.example.com/u/cafe?table=table-4;
  • Copy link and Open QR buttons. Open QR shows a 240 by 240 QR image you can print.

When someone opens a station link, LinkNest records a scan for that station (with the device and, where available, country and city) and counts it as a page view with the source table:<code>. The studio lists each station with its scans over the last 14 days. ?t=<code> works as well as ?table=.

Important

Open QR builds the image with the public service at api.qrserver.com, which therefore receives each station's link. If you would rather not use a third party, copy the link and make the QR code with any offline tool: only the link matters. (The Share screen's generator always encodes the plain page address, without a station.)

Station codes are unique per page. Removing a station also removes its scan history.

Putting it together

A café might run:

  • Place card: address, "Mon–Sat 8–6", the Wi-Fi password and a menu link.
  • Live status: "Open · kitchen till 3", renewed each morning. See Live status.
  • Specials: two daily items, one with Tip for this for the barista.
  • Stations: one QR per table, so Place shows which tables scan and Insights count them as visits.
